Slash Film: Howard Shore Article

Before “The Magic Show,” there was Doug’s first stage show, “Spellbound.” While, it is not very remembered today, it laid the groundwork for Doug’s future career, as well as many others. With a creative team of Doug, Ivan Reitman, David Cronenberg, and Howard Shore, “Spellbound” was a confluence of Canadian creativity.

For those not aware of the name of Howard Shore, his music set the stage for “Spellbound,” as well as many, many movies after that. Most notable of these is the “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” films. However, did you know that he was also the first musical director of “Saturday Night Live?”

The website Film Slant recently published an article profiling Shore circuitous career path on the way to SNL. It even name checks Doug and “Spellbound.” It’s a fun piece, and I think you’ll enjoy it via the link below.

It was great to perform and kibitz with Howie in the early days. He has a sense of humor.
