Thanks to John Cox of Wild About Harry for alerting me to a new magic and comedy play currently running at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Hollywood starring Judy Carter.
“A Death-Defying Escape” is a show that deals with Carter’s life and career in magic among other things. Why am I mentioning this? Well, according to John, Doug, Dai Vernon, and Houdini both feature in the performance at various times. Carter’s own summary of the show reads:
“In this hilarious and inspiring new play, America’s first female magician discovers that her most difficult illusion is a death-defying escape from the secrets of her past. A story told with jaw-dropping magic, Jewishness, and lesbian love.”
While I haven’t seen the play for myself yet, I intend to in the near future, and I’d love to hear people’s opinions of it. For more information on the show and how to buy tickets please visit: HERE
This is the type of inspiration the magic profession needs. Good luck with your project…I hope it kicks open some doors for you.
