Jerry Andrus Performing for Doug and Debbie

The above photo is of renowned magician Jerry Andrus (1918-2007) performing for Doug and Debby. This event took place at the Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon. While the year is a bit of a mystery, it’s safe to say it was in the mid-1980s.

This picture represents a magical meeting of the minds…so to speak. Andrus was a deeply respected close-up magician who from his home in Oregon, known as the “Castle of Chaos, designed many famous illusions such as the “Linking Pins.”

A kind of benevolent mentor figure in magic, Andrus was always more than happy to give people tours of his unique home. It never really seemed to matter to him whether it was David Copperfield or just a general fan of magic…the more the merrier. Jerry Andrus died at the age 89, but not before leaving the art of magic a better place for him having been here!

The “Castle of Chaos” was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
