Norm Nielsen

I’m sure you’ve all heard, but, famed respected magician and poster collector Norm Nielsen passed away yesterday. His act, along with his massive collection of magic posters, was legendary.

It should be no surprise that among his vast collection were some original Doug gems from “Merlin” and the “Magic Show.” As you can see from Norm’s 2017 Potter & Potter auction catalog, these beloved posters were nestled among magic’s all time hall of fame!

I met him at the 1985 TAOM magic convention. SUCH a sweet man! And his classic act, i have NO suitable words for the pure majesty and artistry of it. He was pure class all the way.

Norm Nielson performed an absolutely mesmerizing Violin Zombie at an awards evening for magicians in NYC, in 1976. His elegant performance fit him well, he was a gentleman.
After the evening he came to a party at Doug’s loft in Greenwich Village. Ricky Jay and Flip Hallema were also there that evening. Flip did not speak a lot of English and Norm acted as his translator.
It was an evening out of a movie, a genuine scene with Norm performing tricks that he normally did not do on stage, with his various shaped zombies. And each magician there doing something unique.
I hope everybody gets a chance to see a genuine magicians’ three ring circus of magic going on and the atmosphere full of cards.
Doug was having so much fun he didn’t want to do anything, he was happy to let everybody else be the star..
