They say that most people’s attention span for watching videos on You Tube is 3 minutes. But, I thought I’d test that theory with this 1970s short vignette for the “March of Dimes” called “The Magic of Reading.”
It’s really a charming and endearing short film which really showcases what I feel were the high points of his specials: Doug doing magic for children. As you would expect, Doug really charms the small crowd by never pandering or altering his act. He’s just Doug being Doug, and that’s what always worked.
Joining him are a then Bruce Jenner, various smaller illusions, and a grand finale from Houdini’s “Metamorphosis.” I will say out of all the YouTube clips I’ve shown over the months this is one of my favorites.
It’s really worth the 10 minutes if you have the time.
