Thanks for all the hard work on this site. I began doing magic about a year before Doug Henning burst onto the scene with Spellbound in Toronto. My dad, at the time, had access to tickets to all the events in Toronto and we were there for opening night of Spellbound. Second row, centre on the isle. Prior to the opening curtain, I was introduced to and got to meet the legendary Johnny Giordmaine, who produced a giant pocket watch from his vest and did the “rubber pencil” trick with a pencil the size of my arm. I also met Sid Lorraine and the president of The Society of Canadian Magicians who invited to join.
But the highlight of the night was going on stage with Doug for Metamorphosis. It was a turning point in my life. At the age of 14 I built the first of my many Metamorphosis trunks and had a good career as a magician and escape artist in Toronto. I still have my signed copy of the Spellbound Program, as my cousin Les Rose was a friend of Dougs and I was able to go backstage after the show to meet Doug.
