Doug Henning’s World of Mysterious Domain Names

Recently, I came across a bit of a mystery on this crazy little thing called the internet. It involves the address, “Doughenning.com,” and what exactly its purpose is, and why it’s even there for that matter.

I had initially come across this six years ago when I began “The Doug Henning Project” website, and  looked at whether “Doughenning.com” was available for purchase.  It’s not, but, the weird thing is, if you go to it, all you get is this classic shot of Doug.

Yup, that’s it! Nothing else. No contact info. No menu. NADA. Frozen in time, this dead domain leaves us with a tantalizing hint of something. What that something is, is a mystery to even me. Check it out for yourself if you don’t believe me.

The only hint that I have ever come across is an newspaper article from 2001 that spoke to a Doug Henning impersonator (yes there was one at the time). This performer had to rethink his act after Doug’s passing, and make his show a tribute to Doug. As an aside, the article mentioned he had reserved the address “Doughenning.com.”

However, 2001 was truly the wilderness days of the internet, and all attempts to reach this performer have come to nothing. I don’t even know if this is even owned by him anymore, or who is even paying to maintain the site at this point

So, like Bigfoot, Chupacabra, Ghosts, and UFOs, this mysterious Doug Henning placeholder and domain name will remain a mystery for now. Somewhere out there, Doug is probably smiling.

  1. Sometimes people grab domain names in order to sell them for $$$ if somebody (like, say, Doug Henning back when) wants them. They have no intent on doing anything with them otherwise.

That is really interesting that someone woud go to the expense to do that.
Seems they were buying it as one buys land for investment; but, why don’t they use it.
You do a great job with your posts. I enjoy reading them. Keep up the good work.
