“Merlin” Closing Anniversary

And I’m back…

I just wanted to briefly note that today, August 7th, marks the 40th anniversary of “Merlin” closing. While,  commemorating closing anniversaries isn’t as popular as openings, “Merlin” is in a class all its own, and any date is worth a mention. The trials and tribulations of the show are well documented, and the fact that it got through 69 previews and 199 performances  is a feat unto itself under the circumstances.

For Doug Henning, the closing of “Merlin” represented one of the more challenging phases of his career. While the show itself may not have been what he envisioned. In the years since, the show has garnered a somewhat mythic reputation of a lost musical that still brings a smile to people’s faces.  What more could you ask for?
