1973 “Spellbound” Zig-Zag” Promo Photo

The above photo has been making the rounds on social media as of late. I’d seen it before, but not as clear as this version is.

It was taken for a round of 1973 publicity photos in anticipation of Doug’s first show “Spellbound.” In an often told tale, the show had been booked at the last minute at Toronto’s esteemed Royal Alexandria Theater for its Christmas season.

I believe the woman in the Zig Zag is one of Doug’s first assistants, Maya. But, if I’m wrong, I’m sure someone out there will correct me.

Special Thanks to Mark WIlloughby

Yes, this was a promo picture for Spellbound with Maya. Doug’s new Zig-Zag carries the show characture. Doug is wearing his costume for act 2, and his Silver Platform Shoes.

This is the same Zig-Zag as the one used for The Magic Show with Dale Soules, just the characture was changed.
He took this unit with him when he left the show.
